  • In 1986 Ralph, Elizabeth and family came to The Lawns and began creating a garden,
more through trial and error than knowledge.

  • Guinea Wood was planted in the Autumn of 1987, soon ‘whips’ matured into young trees
and with the advice and encouragement of the Forestry Dept and F.W.A.G. more interesting

  • Spring 2003 Herefordshire Nature Trust awarded The Lawns a 'Green Business Award'.
By 2004 a H.N.T. 'Wildlife Action Award' was added at Gold level.

  • Winter 2005 Guinea Wood makes The Lawns self-sufficient for firewood.
    Ralph purchases a chainsaw

  • Elizabeth is full of on-going ideas to add garden colour, encourage birds and create other

Herefordshire Nature Trust part of The Wildlife Trusts partnership As far as Herefordshire Nature Trust is concerned, green tourism is about creating new opportunities for tourism and encouraging the development of existing tourism enterprises with minimum impact on wildlife and the environment. For example, by encouraging the use of low energy light bulbs and recycling facilities, or by planting trees, hedges and shrubs to attract wildlife.
